Allophylus decipiens

English: Small-leaved False-currant; Afrikaans: Kleinblaarvalstaaibos

Allophylus decipiens - Many-stemmed shrub or small tree 3-4m in height, with slender stem and bushy crown, occurring in coastal forest, wooded ravines and fringe forest and thicket. Attractive garden tree. Good bonsai subject. Bark pale grey. Glossy, trifoliate leaves. Flowers: small, whitish racemes up to 6cm long (Feb-May). Fruit: almost sperical, about 6mm dia., bunches, becoming bright red (Apr-Jun). Does well in full sun to semi-shade. Prune off lower branches to form single-stemmed tree.
