Aloe micrantha

Aloe micracantha - A grass aloe, stemless with long (500mm), narrow (30mm) leaves that are only slightly succulent. Decidious, leaves dying back almost completely during winter. Leaves copiously spotted (white) on both sides. Flowering (November - February), stimulated by veld fires. Difficult to cultivate. This is the only grass aloe found in fynbos. Occurs between Uniondale and Grahamstown at 50 - 700m above sea level. Prefers poor, well-drained sandy soil. Not frost tolerant. Drought resistant.
