A small tree reaching 6m or spiny scrambler or dense shrub with long, arching branches. Occurs along the coast from Southern Cape norwards to Mozambique. Also in Mpumalanga & Zimbabwe. Easily identified by 2 sharp, downward-hooked thorns flanking each leave, broad-based, short but vicious. Two varieties: citrifolia (occuring in Sunshine Coast) & subglabra.
