1. Kniphofia linearifolia - Handsome tall 1m - 1,5m species with long strap shaped leaves and striking long stemmed spikes of yellow flowers in summer buds tinged red. Evergreen, requiring full sun, good garden loam and ample water in summer. Good cut flower, very attractive to sunbirds. Can tolerate marshy conditions.

2. Kniphofia praecox - A striking, winter-flowering garden variety with tall spikes of yellow/orange flowers. Evergreen, requiring full sun, good garden loam and ample water in summer. Good cut flower, very attractive to sunbirds. Does well in most soil types and positions, especially wet or bog areas. The plant is relatively pest-free.

3. Kniphofia rooperi - Tall winter flowering evergreen with curved grey-green leaves and flowers brilliant orange-red to yellowgreen. Robust grower for mixed borders or feature plants, requiring full sun, good garden loam and ample water in summer. Good cut flower, very attractive to sunbirds. Does well in most soil types and positions, especially wet or bog areas. The plant is relatively pest-free.

4. Kniphofia uvaria - Very attractive orange flower spikes ± 1m in summer, good cut flower. Very attractive to birds too! Plant in a moist position as it thrives near streams and bog areas. Top dress and feed with organic fertiliser before flowering for best results and water regularly. The plant is relatively pest-free.
